San Francisco Giant

$1,295.00

This is the original San Francisco Giant painting. It is 18 inches by 24 inches oil on canvas. This piece was created for the Superfine Art Fair in San Francisco. It portrays Willie Mays as the Colossus of Rhodes statue, one of the ancient wonders of the world, which was ultimately destroyed. The Colossus of Rhodes was a giant, bronze statue of Helios that welcomed ships into the city and the island of Rhodes. Willie Mays, who I believe is the greatest baseball player to play baseball, is depicted in the same way, and greets ships as they sail towards Oracle Park, where the San Francisco Giants play. The background features the Northern Lights to create a colorful and inspiring sky. It also represents how he was able to rise above the racism, especially in the South, that he experienced. UPS shipping and certificate of authenticity included!
