Sugar Stick Mountain is from my first collection, Sugarloaf Mountain. Sugarloaf Mountain is privately owned and was purchased parcel after parcel to provide the general public access to a natural landmark. It is not only the highest peak in the region but has served as a natural escape and setting for visitors and residents to form core memories. Over the years, I have rock climbed, hiked with family and friends, and even proposed to my wife while overlooking the east view.

Growing up, I was enthralled by the name and used to think about other sugar-themed names and visions as I drove by or visited the site. Sugar Stick Mountain is one of those visions. Sticking with the sugar theme, the primary ridge and focal point of the painting is an oversized lollipop. Lollipops are also used to depict the trees in the foreground. I also repeated the circular and linear features of the lollipop to reimagine the clouds and sunset. This piece is very important to me because it was one of the first paintings that I completely deviated from my reference image and created a completely surrealist world.
